Eden I&R Receives Funding from Kaiser Permanente Northern California Information and Referral Grants Program

MARCH 26, 2012, HAYWARD - As individuals continue to be impacted by the downturn in the economy, information and referral systems that provide comprehensive information on local health and human services resources, like Eden I&R, have been experiencing a continuous rise in call volume.

2-1-1 is a toll free number, available 24/7 and in over 170 languages for the public to access health, housing and human service information and referrals. All calls are confidential and are handled by professionally trained Phone Line Resource Specialists who assess needs and then provide the appropriate referrals. Currently 2-1-1 Alameda County handles over 9,000 calls per month, the largest call volume in the 9 Bay Area Counties. In 2011, 2-1-1 Alameda County received over 113,000 calls and provided approximately 214,000 referrals to County residents, employees, and advocates.

Nearly 30 schools in Contra Costa County have reported suspected cases within the past two months. The schools remained open but principals notified parents, and custodians scrubbed desks and tables with bleach-and-water solutions.

By dialing 2-1-1, Alameda County callers are able to receive information and referrals to the over 2,800 programs and 74,500 affordable housing units throughout the county.

Eden I&R was recently awarded a $50,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente's Information and Referral Grants Program as part of the nonprofit health care organization’s continued effort to support essential services in our community.

According to Barbara Bernstein, Eden I&R’s Executive Director, “Kaiser Permanente's leadership in support of 2-1-1 Alameda County will enable Eden I&R to continue offering vital essential service information and referrals to those in Alameda County who need it most.”
